America

Seat reservations: Yes, compulsory on long distance services however you are not pre-allocated specific seats.

Rail pass available: Yes (America Rail Pass)

Australia

Booking window: Approx 9 Months.

Tickets issued as: E-Tickets.

Seat reservations: Yes, compulsory on some high speed services.

Child age range: 4 - 15 years old.

Rail pass available: Yes (Discovery Pass / Rail Explorer Pass)

Main stations /Left luggage: Yes, at some stations.

Other information:

Most overnight services have sleeping cars (up to three berths), couchettes (four/six berths) and 2nd class seats.

Canada

China

Booking window: Approx 12 Months. 

Tickets issued as: Paper Tickets or Ticket on Departure (only at some stations). Paper tickets can only be sent to addresses in China - ie. hotel/hostel etc.

Seat reservations: Yes, compulsory.

Child age range: 5 years old and under.

Rail pass available: No.

Cycle Hire: Yes, at some stations. 

Main stations /Left luggage: Yes, at some stations.
 

Other information:

The rail network in China connects most cities and towns. The trains are safe, comfortable and very efficient. There are several main lines in China, there is the Jingiiu and Jingguang lines which run from North to South and the Longhai Line which runs from East to West and so on.

The trains run daily and operate to efficient timetables.

By choosing to travel by rail in China you will get to experience the ordinary life of its people and see some amazing scenery from the comfort of your own seat.

First class and Second class seats are available on most trains.

 

Japan

The Japan Rail Pass offers great value!

It’s an economical way to travel throughout Japan’s extensive rail network, considered to be one of the most efficient in the world.

This includes travel aboard the world famous Shinkansen bullet trains. Limited expresses and local services.

 

Malaysia 


Booking window: Approx 3 months.

Tickets issued as: E-Tickets.

Seat reservations: Yes, compulsory on long distance services.

Child age range: 4 - 11 years old.

Rail pass available: No. 

Cycle Hire: No.

Main stations /Left luggage: Yes, at some stations.
 

Other information:

The most popular route in Malaysia is from Singapore to Kuala Lumpar and vise verse. 

The railway heads up the west coast of Malaysia. 

 

Russia

Booking window: Approx 3 months.

Tickets issued as: E-Tickets.

Seat reservations: Yes, compulsory.

Child age range: 5 - 9 years old.

Rail pass available: No.

Cycle Hire: No.

Main stations /Left luggage: Yes, at some stations.
 

Other information:

Possibly the most famous of all rail routes, the Trans-Siberian route takes you from Moscow to Beijing in around 7 days.

You’ll travel across Siberia, through the Gobi desert and then to China.

There are several routes to take and RailTourGuide will advise on the best routes and other useful information before you embark on your fantastic journey.
