4 Day Self Tour of Scotland (4 days)

Day One; Glasgow or Edinburgh to Inverness

Travel from Glasgow or Edinburgh by rail to Inverness, The Capital of the Highlands. On this journey you will pass through Perth and the Cairngorms mountain range.

Day Two; Inverness
You can choose to visit Loch Ness on one of the many tours operating from Inverness bus station or you could stay and explore Inverness Castle or the Museum. If you wished to you could travel by rail to the ski resort of Aviemore in the Cairngorms or even take a trip on the Speyside steam railway.

Day Three; Inverness to the Isle of Skye
Travel by rail along one of the most scenic railway lines in the World to the Kyle of Lochalsh. You can then make your own way over the sea to Skye! As Bonnie Prince Charlie did many years ago after fleeing from the Jacobite defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. You can travel by road over the bridge onto Skye, to the town of Portree (Isle of Skye) and explore the myths and traditions of this beautiful island.

Day Four; Isle of Skye to Fort William
Travel from the port of Armadale on the Isle of Skye. You can then take the ferry to Mallaig on the Scottish mainland where you can rejoin the railway line and the magnificent West Highland Railway to Fort William.

Fort William is situated at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain Ben Nevis which is 1344 metres high. The town has little left of the original fort from which the town takes its name – it was pulled down in the 19th century to make way for the railway. Originally a tiny fishing village called Gordonsburgh, the town took its present name with the opening of the railway in 1901, which along with the building of the Caledonian Canal, soon grew into a tourist centre. Fort William has many cafes and shops to explore; there is also the small but fascinating West Highland Museum, situated on Cameron Square.

Why not visit the Glenfinnan Monument!

You can then make your way back to your starting location after a very memorable tour of this amazing country.
