Austria boasts some great heritage railways in beautiful countryside, and this tour visits most of them. From the Achenseebahn and lake cruise, to the famous Zillertalbahn. We also visit the delightful Steyrtalbahn, the superbly scenic Mariazellerbahn and enjoy an exclusive steam charter from Timelkam to Ampflwang.

Depart from London on an early morning Eurostar to Brussels connecting onwards via Frankfurt to Linz arriving 1945. Stay five nights at the Ibis Hotel, situates across the road from the station. The hotel features a bar and restaurant.
Friday 3rd August 2012
A local train ride to Timelkam for an exclusive steam charter over the standard gauge line to Ampflwang and visit to the steam roundhouse.
Saturday 4th August 2012
Rail to Steyr, vintage Postbus transfer to the narrow gauge Steyrtalbahn for a steam train ride over the 17km line to Grunberg and return. Time to look around the attractive town of Steyr before returning by rail to Linz.
Sunday 5th August 2012
By rail to St. Polten, then vintage electric to Obergrafendorf where Mh6 steam loco is attached for the stiff climb all the way to Mariazell, a further 72 kms on the unique and truly spectacular Mariazellerbahn. At Mariazell there is the opportunity to ride a steam tram engine to a nearby lake before returning by steam to Obergrafendorf, with vintage electric to St.Polten and then mainline train to Linz.
Monday 6th August 2012
By high speed "Railjet" train to Worgl and local train to Jenbach for a ride over the narrow gauge Zillertalbahn to Mayrhofen. There is time for lunch before returning behind steam to Jenbach. Our afternoon excitement is the unique Achenseebahn steam rack railway, climbing over the mountain and down the other side to Achen Lake where we take a relaxing cruise. We return by steam to Jenbach and "Railjet" service to Linz.

We depart Linz mid morning by rail to Munich Airport for our afternoon flight to London Heathrow, arriving circ. 17.20 hrs.
