
A mix of stunning scenary, vibrant city life and rich history await you on this suggested itinerary which takes you on a magical tour to Northern England and back. Along the way we will travel on one of the UKs most scenic lines with views which are guaranteed to astound.
Day One:-
We are using London for the purpose of showing you this suggested tour. Your RailTourGuide will meet you in reception of your booked hotel and accompany you to London Kings Cross station. On arrival we shall go to platform 9 ¾ to see the boarding point of Harry Potters “Hogwarts Express” This is the start of a truly magical tour taking in scenery that takes your breath away.
We will be joining a more modern train for our journey north, operated by East Coast trains our service departs Kings Cross and heads north past Arsenal football club. Heading out of the suburbs and into the Fens. From the Fenland city of Peterborough we pass over Stoke Bank the place that Mallard broke the world speed record for steam and head into the railway town of Doncaster. After a short while we pass historic York with its Minister, Durham with its Cathedral and onward to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
After checking in at your Quayside hotel we will have a short sightseeing tour of Newcastle and then take the Tyne and Wear metro to coastal town of Tynemouth for dinner. After dinner we head back to Newcastle for either a quiet night in the bar or if you prefer a more lively night at one of the many nightclubs that abound in Newcastle.
Day Two:-
After a full English breakfast we make our way to Newcastle station and take the train through the picturesque Tyne Valley line through Hexham and into Carlisle. This line roughly follows Hadrian’s Wall and has some magnificent views of the valley as we pass along.
After two hours sightseeing and lunch in the northern city of Carlisle we head back to the station to catch the train to Leeds. This will be no ordinary journey. The train heads through scenery that will astound, fells, mountain, rivers, streams, viaduct and tunnels are passed on this, one of Britain’s most scenic railway lines – The Settle and Carlisle Line. After 73 miles we run into Hellifield and continue past cotton mills and on into Leeds.
Changing trains here we catch the East Coast train service back to London where our guide will accompany you to your booked hotel.
Remember this is just a suggestion of what to do, you could get off the train at Ribblehead to take pictures of this magnificent viaduct. its your tour you tell us what you want.
