On the highest railway tracks in Europe and the steepest in the world, the Bernina Express takes its passengers on a unique journey through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges. From Switzerland’s oldest town through wildly romantic gorges, past spectacular man-made structures such as the Landwasser Viaduct, up to the eternal ice of the glaciers and back down to the palm trees in the Italian town of Tirano: no other Alpine crossing is so spectacular. The Bernina Express is a panoramic train journey that takes you through the breathtaking beauty of the Swiss Alps. This iconic rail route is one of the most scenic in the world, offering stunning views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and picturesque villages.

The Bernina Express connects Switzerland’s fashionable resort town of St. Moritz with the Italian town of Tirano, winding its way through towering mountain passes, crossing impressive viaducts, and gliding through charming valleys. The train features large panoramic windows, allowing passengers to fully immerse themselves in the natural splendor surrounding them.

During the journey, you’ll pass through UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Albula and Bernina Railway lines. The train also navigates the famous Brusio Spiral Viaduct, a marvel of engineering that adds to the excitement of the ride.
With its comfortable amenities and mesmerising vistas, it promises an enchanting adventure that will leave you with a lifetime of memories.

The Bernina Express runs daily between Chur and Tirano. In summer there are additional connections:

  • Chur – Tirano – Chur (all year, daily)
  • Tirano – Chur – Tirano (in summer daily)
  • St. Moritz – Tirano – St. Moritz (in summer daily)
  • Tirano – St. Moritz – Tirano (daily during the summer season and on individual days in winter according to the timetable)

A seat reservation on the Bernina Express is mandatory.

Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge. Children aged 6 to 16 pay half the fare.

Dogs are allowed on the Bernina Express and do not require a reservation. Depending on the size of the dog, a dog ticket is required.
