About this journey

Your journey starts in the famous Lake District town of Kendal and takes you on the most famous of the Lakes, Windermere and Ullswater. By coach, by cruise, and by vintage steam train you’ll travel through the Vale of Leven, the village of Haverwaite, you’ll journey over the Shap Fell, we’ll step in Penrith and experience Derwent Water before taking a little tipple during a tour of a distillery.

Have a brief encounter with the 1940s at Carnforth Station after enjoying a relaxing ride through Cumbria, coming back via the West Coast mainline.

This is a tour packed with incredible scenery and landscapes, and a must for any enthusiast.

Day 1

The beautiful Lake District town of Kendal is your destination today, arrive at your leisure to get ready for your awaiting adventure!



Day 2

We’ll travel by coach to Bowness on Lake Windermere today to indulge in a little sightseeing. You’ll get the chance to take a leisurely cruise to the southern tip of Lake Windermere, visiting the incredible Lakes Aquarium where you can discover all about the Lake District animal and fish life. In the afternoon it’s time to board a vintage steam train and journey through the Vale of Leven to the village of Haverwaite. You’ll get the chance to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea before returning abroad our private coach through the winding roads back to Kendal.

Day 3

Today we’ll travel over the remote Shap Fell by train, getting off at Penrith for a day of touring around the North Lakes area. We’ll enjoy a trip on Lake Ullswater by heritage steamer, cruising along the Ullswater Valley before stopping for lunch and free time in the market town of Keswick which sits on the shores of Derwentwater. Back abroad to continue alongside Bassenthwaite Lake and indulge in a tour and a little tipple at the Lakes Distillery. It’s back to Penrith for our train ride back to Kendal.

Day 4

The eme today will be relaxation! We’ll begin with a gentle ride along the famous “Mountain Goat” journey, over the Lake District’s famous rolling hills into Dalegarth Station. We’ll then switch our modern journey out for a steam train ride on the Owd Ratty, through to the coast at Ravenglass. Back in the modern carriages and a quick jaunt along the Cumbria Coastline through Grangeover Sands and Morecambe Bay. We’ll spend some time relaxing in Carnforth, where there will be plenty of time to indulge in tea and scones at this beautiful 1940s inspired station where a scene from the movie “Brief Encounter” was filmed! It’s a circular tour back via the West Coast mainline to Kendal where we arrive in time for dinner.

Day 5

The last full day of our tour sees us travel once again on the West Coast Mainline, this time through Lancaster and the picturesque market town of Skipton. We’ll pick up the world-famous “Settle & Carlisle” line and travel through the Yorkshire Dales, crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct through to the highest mainline station in England at Dent. You’ll have enough time to explore with some leisure time in  Carlisle, returning in time for dinner at our hotel in Kendal.


Day 6

Today it’s time to say goodbye to us, but not to the wonderful memories we have made together as you travel home.
