Set in the rolling hills of the Peak District, Chatsworth is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. It has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family and was largely the work of Bess of Hardwick, who settled there in 1549. Since then, it has continued to evolve, and now offers one of Europe’s most significant art collections. Highlights of the house include the Painted Hall, State Drawing Room and Sculpture Gallery, while the extensive grounds, sculpted by Capability Brown, include the spectacular Cascade, Emperor Fountain and Victorian Rock Garden. Your journey begins at London Victoria Station as you board British Pullman and take your seat in your exquisitely designed carriage. Take time to admire the authentic 1920s décor and craftsmanship, with vintage details ranging from polished marquetry to brass luggage racks. As the train travels north to Chesterfield, your smartly uniformed steward serves a sparkling Bellini and a delicious brunch. Linger over each seasonal bite as you absorb the ever-changing vistas through the window. On arrival at Chesterfield, guides meet you and escort you on a private coach journey through the scenic Derbyshire countryside to Chatsworth. Explore the much-loved estate and marvel at its astounding treasures, which take you right up to the present day with contemporary artworks and sculptures. Afterwards, make your way back to the coach by 16:00 (your guide will confirm the time) and travel to Chesterfield Station to rejoin British Pullman. Glass of champagne in hand, enjoy the buzz of conversation in your carriage as your fellow travellers reflect on the sights and experiences of the day. A seasonal five-course dinner is served, accompanied by our sommelier’s handpicked wines, as the train wends its way back to London. Enjoy coffee shortly before your arrival at London Victoria.
